Winter is finally in full swing after quite a mild start to the season. With the freezing air outside and the heaters being turned on indoors your skin might not be at its best. In my case my skin gets quite dry and flaky, two things that are not appealing to anyone. Everyone has their arsenal of products that they use in the colder months that help keep them moisturized and overall comfortable in their own skin; so here are a few of mine. Below I am sharing my winter essentials, honestly would not survive the colder months without them:
LUSH King of Skin body butter: I will be the first to say that I find moisturizing my body to be a bit of a hassle. Having to get the lotion, pumping it out, then rubbing it into your skin until it sinks in is just a bit much sometimes. Fortunately, one beautiful day while browsing LUSH I found this; it should be renamed to “Lazy Moisturizer” (the name might need some work), it’s beyond amazing. It is pretty much lotion in bar form that can be used on your wet skin. So after the shower I take this and rub it all over my body while my skin is still damp, then towel dry and done! You can also use this on dry skin if you wanted to, but I find that the product sinks in better when it’s used after a shower. It doesn’t feel like an extra step in your routine and it keeps you moisturized the entire day. The only thing I would change is the smell, it’s not a bad just odd, but hey I will use this over regular lotion any day.
Nivea Lip Butter: This is the best drugstore lip balm ever! I’m gone though so many tins of this, it’s beyond amazing. As the name suggest is more of a lip butter than a balm which makes it more moisturizing for your lips. It comes in a small tin, has a creamy texture which allows it to easily spread on lips, and it’s not at all sticky. My favorite scent/flavor is the Rasberry Rose Kiss, it smells just like candy (just remember not to eat it).
Soap & Glory Hand Food: I discovered this hand cream when I studied abroad in London back in 2011 and honestly have not really used another hand cream since. The scent is what drew me to the product initially, it is very floral and rich but sweet at the same time. The cream itself is very thick, hydrating, and not at all greasy. You really notice a difference when you use it on a regular basis. I keep one on my night stand and another in my handbag at all times.
Origins Drink Up Intensive face mask: I naturally have very oily skin, but for the first time ever last winter I had this issue of dry flacky patches on my face. I wasn’t sure what to do because my skin was still oily but there were also dry patches and then like a present from the beauty gods this came as a gift with purchase. I tried it for one night and it quickly because my go-to mask for the winter. Whenever my skin starts to get that that tight feeling I wear this overnight and it provides my skin with much needed hydration. It’s not a super heavy cream, a light layer will do and it works wonders.
Hopefully you found something new to try; let me know what are some some of your winter essentials in the comments below.
