Current Skincare Routine – Winter 2017 Edition

Before winter is officially over I want to share my winter skincare routine which I’m currently loving! If there’s one thing to know about me is that I’m skincare obsessed; I’m constantly trying new products while still keeping my holy grail picks in mind. Most of these I’ve raved about in the past, others are recent discoveries. All these products are geared to work with my oily and blemish prone skin type. While some products are formulated to work for oily skin, many of them will work with any skin type. So here we go:

First, I double cleanse (if I’m not wearing makeup I will cleanse once) with the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser. This cleanser has a creamy texture that lathers to remove makeup and impurities without over drying the skin, it’s fragrance-free and great for any skin type. I always try out new cleansers, but always come back to this one - it’s really great at cleansing the skin. I then move on to toner and I am aware that many people do not incorporate this step into their routine, but it’s one of my favorites. I use the Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion and have been for a couple years now; I shake the bottle to combine the clarifying solution and oil absorbing powder, apply it to a cotton face round, and swipe it all over my face avoiding the eye area. This really helps keep my blemishes at bay and preps my skin for the other products. I will say that if you have dry skin or sensitive this may not be for you as it is a little drying.

Next I move on to eye cream, I’m currently using a sample of Erno Laszlo Transphuse Eye Refineris, I’m liking it but probably won’t purchase the full-size. For me eye cream is tricky because it’s a product you have to trust will help your eye area in the long run, it’s also the product that changes the most in my routine. I’m constantly searching for the texture/consistency that works best for me. After I apply a serum, I’m currently loving Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Serum - I have written an in depth review that goes into more detail on why it’s amazing. After letting the serum absorb for a couple minutes I use a spot treatment if needed. Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum is my spot treatment of choice at the moment it’s a lightweight but powerful treatment that does not overdry the skin. This blemish serum also helps with scars and hyperpigmentation which is a big plus when dealing with spots.

Finally, I do the most important step - moisturize. This is probably my fourth jar of the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, to say I love this product is an understatement. It’s perfectly lightweight and leaves my skin hydrated without feeling greasy. During the day I will apply Algenist Sublime Defense Ultra Lightweight UV Defence Fluid over the top. This sunscreen is hands down the best sunscreen I have ever tried (and trust me I have tried a lot). It’s the best sunscreen for oily skin, I go into more detail about this product in a previous favorites post. When I feel like I need a bit more hydration at night I will use the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. It contains apricot oil, avocado oil, and Japanese seaweed to restore moisture and prevent future dehydration. Just massage a nickle sized amount onto the skin, tissue off the excess, rest, and wake up to replenished and smooth skin.

That sums up my current skincare winter routine. If you have any product suggestions be sure to leave them in the comments below, I would love to give them a try!
